ARFID Food Groups

A Supportive Path to

Expanding Food Choices

Is your child struggling with ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) and having difficulty trying new foods? At CEDAR Health, our ARFID Food Adventure Groups offer a unique and supportive environment where children can explore new foods and expand their food variety in a safe, positive space.

A Path to Progress, One Bite at a Time

Our goal is simple: to help children develop a more confident relationship with food, reduce stress around mealtimes, and build healthy eating habits that last. Whether your child is avoiding certain textures, struggling with food anxiety, or has a limited diet, our ARFID Food Adventure Groups provide the tools and guidance to make meaningful progress.

What is ARFID?

ARFID is a complex eating disorder characterized by restrictive eating patterns, an extreme dislike of certain foods, or a fear of new foods. Unlike other eating disorders, ARFID is not driven by concerns about body image but rather by sensory sensitivities (e.g., aversion to textures or smells), a fear of choking, or negative experiences with food.

Children with ARFID may have difficulty eating a balanced diet, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies, growth issues, and emotional distress. CEDAR Health’s ARFID Food Adventure Groups aim to support children in overcoming these challenges by fostering a positive relationship with food and providing essential coping strategies.

What You Can Expect from the ARFID Food Adventure Groups

Our ARFID Food Adventure Groups are designed to support children at their own pace, helping them feel more comfortable with food and less stressed around mealtimes. Here’s what makes our program unique:

  • Multidisciplinary Approach: Each group is led by a team of experts, including therapists, dietitians, and medical professionals, who work together to support your child’s progress.

  • Weekly Themes: Each session focuses on a specific theme, such as Sensory & Taste Cues, Mealtime Etiquette, and Mindful Eating, allowing children to explore new foods while understanding the emotional and sensory connections to what they eat.

  • Safe & Encouraging Environment: We create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where children can feel comfortable stepping outside of their food preferences and trying new things—without pressure.
